Creative Fabric Collage
Dates Offered - Saturday April 26 or Sunday May 18
3.5 hour workshop 1:00- 4:30pm
Textile Collage is a process of constructing artwork intuitively and mindfully, and a great way to develop your own artistic style. Creating with collage enables you to use a portion of the fabrics you create and have left over scraps to develop more art pieces building a cohesive theme to your work. It helps you to look at things differently and the process can be freeing. Adding stitch, whether by machine or hand, will enhance your textile art collage, give it dimension and make it truly your own.
We will look at the fabrics created from previous fabric painting workshop and talk about ways to incorporate color, texture and movement using fabric layering collage out of the pieces you created. Compositions can be simple and abstract or more realistic and complex. Your direction will be inspired by the fabrics you created and how much layering you choose to do. You can also choose to work from a photo if that helps guide you. You will be shown some simple ways to get started and after your composition is complete it will be tacked in place with fabric glue and ready for stitching if you choose or mounted on card stock. Stitching is optional and can be done by machine by hand or both. Demonstrations of collage and free motion stitching will be shown. Bring your own sewing machine if you plan to sew.
* Previous fabric painting class recommended to have stash of fabric to use. Min.4- max.10 students
